Disable web interface components

Adaxes web interface can be used to handle various tasks related to Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID administration, user account management, and self-service. Administrators need a feature-rich interface to deal with the full range of tasks. At the same time, help desk operators need a simple and clear interface to perform user account support. Regular users require an even simpler environment for self-service activities.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to simplify the web interface by disabling the following components:

  1. Open Adaxes web interface configurator.

     How
    • On the computer where Web interface configurator is installed, open Windows Start menu.

    • Click Adaxes Web Interface Configurator.

To configure the web interface, you need to have the appropriate permissions.

     Permissions

The permissions to configure the web interface are delegated via security roles. By default, only service administrators have the appropriate permissions. To enable other users to configure the web interface, grant them the corresponding permissions.

To create a security role that grants the permissions to configure web interface:

    • In Adaxes administration console, right-click your Adaxes service, point to New and click Security Role.

    • Enter a name for the new security role and click Next.

    • On the Permissions step, click the down arrow embedded into the Add button and click Configure Web Interface.

    • Click Next and follow the steps in the wizard.

  2. In the top left corner, select the web interface you want to customize.

  3. Home page

    To hide the Home page:

    • In the left navigation menu, click Home page.

    • Toggle off the Show the Home page slider.

  4. To disable the search component:

    • In the left navigation menu, click Search.

    • Toggle off the Enable search slider.

For details on how to customize search features in the web interface, see Customize directory search.

  5. Reports

    To disable reports:

    • In the left navigation menu, click Reports.

    • Toggle off the Enable reports slider.

    • If you want to hide specific reports instead of disabling the Reports component completely, select the Show only specific reports or Hide specific reports option in the Reports section.

For details on how to configure reports in the web interface, see Configure reports.

  6. Browsing

In Adaxes web interface, users can browse the directory structure and navigate to specific objects from various places.

    To disable the Basket component:

    • In the left navigation menu, click Components.

    • Clear the Basket checkbox.

  11. Password self-service

The Password self-service component allows users to reset their passwords themselves and enroll for password self-service.

To disable the Password self-service component:

    • In the left navigation menu, click Components.

    • Clear the Password self-service checkbox.

  12. Adaxes notifications

When the component is enabled, the web interface displays notifications from the Adaxes service. The notifications are mainly related to product license compliance and expiration. For example, the number of managed user accounts exceeds the number allowed by your license, the web interface will display a note when you sign in.

To disable the Adaxes notifications component:

    • In the left navigation menu, click Components.

    • Clear the Adaxes notifications checkbox.

  13. My menu

My menu is located in the top-right corner of the web interface.

    To disable the menu:

    • In the left navigation menu, click Components.

    • Clear the My menu checkbox.

    • To disallow switching between different web interface configurations (e.g. Help Desk, Self-Service) from My menu, clear the Web interface switcher checkbox.

    • If you want to hide certain items from the menu instead of completely disabling the component, enable the checkbox next to My menu and then click Configure menu items.
