Post-installation steps

After you install Adaxes, you need to complete the following post-installation steps.

  1. Connect to your Adaxes service using credentials of a service administrator.

Connect to Adaxes service as administrator

After Adaxes is installed, the only account that you can use to perform the post-installation tasks is the Adaxes service account that was specified during the installation. Naturally, you need to connect to your Adaxes service using this account:

    1. Launch Adaxes Administration console.

       How { #collapse1}
      • On the computer where Adaxes Administration console is installed, open Windows Start menu.

      • Click Adaxes Administration Console.

    2. Click your Adaxes service in the list of services.

If the Adaxes service you need is not present in the list, click Connect to another Adaxes service, specify the host where your Adaxes service is installed and click Next.

    3. On the Log On step of the wizard, enter the credentials of the service account that was specified during installation of Adaxes service.

      Click Finish.

    4. As a general best practice, it is not recommended to use the Adaxes service account for configuration purposes. Therefore, you need to add your own account to the list of service administrators and use it to configure Adaxes.

To add an account to the list of service administrators:

      • Right-click your Adaxes service in the Console Tree, and then click Properties.

      • Activate the Administrators tab and click Add.

      • Select the users and groups which you want to assign the administrator rights to.

Take into account that Adaxes service administrators have unrestricted access to Adaxes configuration and all domains managed by Adaxes.

Once you've added your account to the list of service administrators, log on to the Adaxes service with your account:

      • Activate the Log On tab and specify the account you want to log on with.

        Click OK.

  2. Register the domains you want to manage with Adaxes.

     Register domains

Adaxes allows you to manage multiple domains even if they belong to different forests and have no trust relationships between them. All operations within a domain are performed via a service account that must have the appropriate rights.

Initially, Adaxes manages only the domain where the Adaxes service account is located. By default, the Adaxes service account is used to perform all operations within that domain. You can specify a different account to perform all operations in the domain.

     How
    • Launch Adaxes Administration console.

    • Expand your Adaxes service node and then expand Managed Domains (the icon represents service nodes).

    • Right-click the domain and select Provide Logon Information.

    To register a domain:

    1. Launch Adaxes Administration console, right-click your Adaxes service, select New and click Managed Domain. The Register Managed Domain wizard will open.

    2. Follow the instructions in the wizard to complete the domain registration.

For more details, see Register/unregister a managed domain.
